What is your favorite word?
“Kindness.” I think is important to show respect to everyone.
What is your least favorite word?
Any unkind words.
What your likes? Interests?
I like to play music and sing. I love playing the drums. I also like to play the Wii. I like going walking with my Mom and sister. We like to walk around the Brentwood High School track sometimes.
I love to listen to any music but my favorite is Hillsong’s album Cornerstone (Deluxe Edition- Live)
Least favorite sound?
When the music and bass is too loud… That’s not good. It could damage your eardrums.
If you weren’t an Actor, what else would you want to do?
Right now, I work at the YMCA. If I had a different job though, I would love to work at an ice cream shop so that way I could eat my favorite dessert all the time.
How did you first get involved in Backlight?
“I read an article in a Doctor’s office waiting room about Backlight Productions and one of its members, Eric Wilson. I was able to speak with Eric’s Mom, Gina, and she talked about how much Backlight had improved Eric’s speech and his confidence so I called and signed Ben up the very next day!” – Sarah Summers (Ben’s Mom)
What productions have you been involved with at Backlight?
Romeo & Juliet- Romeo
Wizard of Oz- Cowardly Lion
Backlight On-Tour- Marty/Mario
What’s been your favorite role that you’ve played so far?
I really enjoyed being the Lion in the Wizard of Oz.
Do you have any Bucket List roles?
I think it would be really fun to do an action movie. I was a police officer for an event at Young Life. I also think it would be really cool to do the musical, Aladdin. I got to see that play in Boston with my family. I would like to play the mean and evil character of Jafar. (Side note: Ben Summers has never been cast as the villian so this would be really fun to see!)
Tell us a little bit about your role in Mary Poppins?
Two words… Mike and “chael…” together they make “Michael.”
Michael is Jane’s brother. He likes to play pranks and get on his sister’s nerves. I don’t know if I do that or not with my own sister, Sarah Beth.
What are some of the things Backlight has taught you?
That it is important to support each other. It is very important for audience members to come to our shows and plays because we need to learn to support other people. I learn how to support my Backlight friends when I am in a play and I feel supported when people come to see us in the show.
“When you get to Heaven and are at the pearly gates, what do you hope God says to you?”
“Welcome home, Ben! Surround yourself with the angels!”
How can we support you outside of Backlight?
Well one thing that is still connected to Backlight… I just want to say that everyone should come and see our Backlight shows and donate so that way we can keep doing plays. And then maybe we can eventually pay our Backlight Actors!
Catch the loveable Ben Summers as Michael Banks in our Spring Production of Mary Poppins!
