Backlight Productions’New Works Festival on July 25, 2026 features original 10-minute plays written by our advanced playwriting students and performed by professional actors.

Each world-premiere piece offers a unique window into the imagination and lived experience of our artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities resulting in theater that is surprising, honest, and unforgettable.

What time does the show end?

Great question! Because of the unique nature of Backlight shows, we sometimes go over the expected run time of a given production. This is due to several factors, such as ensuring actors with mobility disabilities have extra time to enter/exit the stage, additional accessibility modifications for the set, or ensuring actors have the extra space they need to deliver their performance.

Are children allowed to attend?

Yes! Backlight shows are for audiences of all ages.

Will there be an intermission?

This depends on the show. Shows written with intermissions, such as multi-act musicals, will have the original intermissions built in. Other shows, like comedy nights, likely will not.
