Backlight Players presents “Clue”
This season we are debuting Backlight Players – a professional level theater experience for actors with IDD. Backlight Players is designed for actors who are ready to take the next step in their theatrical training and commit to a more rigorous performance experience. THIS IS AN AUDITION-ONLY EXPERIENCE, which means that all interested actors must take part in an in-person audition and may only participate if cast in the show. Over the years, some of our students have expressed the desire to challenge themselves and see if they could ‘make it’ in the professional theater industry. Backlight Players is the opportunity to do just that in a familiar, supportive environment.
An Actor Who Would Thrive in Backlight Players May Be Someone Who:
Is excited by challenges and eager to grow as a performer in a professional setting
Is willing to practice and memorize material consistently at home
Can take direction and apply feedback during rehearsals & memorize lines, blocking, and content with increasing independence
We recognize that this is a big step and a new challenge for many of our artists. Our hope is that actors who audition will embrace the opportunity to rise to the challenge of a more professional theatre experience. Throughout the process, our team will be there to support and encourage our actors every step of the way.
Auditions will be held on Wednesday, July 22 from 6pm-8pm at Backlight Studios (1710 General George Patton Dr. #106 Brentwood)
Auditions Will Include:
Reading selections from the show script (given to participants in advance)
Some acting direction and character work during the audition process (Ex: Artists can expect to read with different Backlight Ensemble members and might be asked to play with different actor choices in the scene)
(if you are unavailable for the audition date but are interested in being considered, please contact: jordan@backlightproductions.org)
**BY REGISTERING, YOU ARE NOT ENROLLED IN THIS EXPERIENCE. YOU ARE SIMPLY SIGNED UP TO AUDITION AND WILL BE SENT A FOLLOW-UP EMAIL WITH MORE DETAILS
**Auditioning means that there is potential for actors to NOT be cast which can be a very difficult thing to experience. If you do not feel that your actor could emotionally handle this process, it may not be the right experience for them. We will plan to meet with and talk to all interested actors prior to the audition and speak directly to anyone who does not get cast.
ALL CAST ACTORS will participate in the production of “Clue” – a HILARIOUS murder-mystery (based on the popular board game & 1985 movie) with many colorful characters and comedic bits. We will be leaning into the comedic acting and challenging our actors through the rehearsal process. Everyone will be expected to be rehearsing frequently at home and to be fully “off book” (memorized) by January 2027. **Please note that this show includes various cases of murder. We will be making them as absurd and unrealistic as possible to lean into the comedy, however, if an actor would not be comfortable with this content, we advise that they not audition.
Performances will be at The Williamson County Performing Arts Center on February 20 & 21, 2027 with mandatory dress rehearsals on Thursday, February 18 & Friday, February 19, 2027. *Commitment to attendance throughout the rehearsal & performance process will be ESSENTIAL for this experience.
Upon being cast, each actor will automatically be added to the class in Studio Pro.
Tuition for all cast actors is $1,000 which includes an upfront Costume Fee of $100, and can be paid in one full payment or monthly payments at $150/month from September-February.
